beginning with nationally recognized Lettuce Entertain You restaurants in 1984, Kurman Communications has built a formidable track record in the restaurant field.

We have worked with dozens upon dozens of restaurants in all categories and sizes, from large national multi-unit operations to small, independent culinary treasures. We know the restaurant business from top to bottom, and we are excellent partners who can translate business goals into workable and successful marketing, media relations and social networking programs.

We have represented national restaurant brands including Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, Houlihans, Quiznos, and Einstein Bros.; food organizations including Women Chefs and Restaurateurs, Meals on Wheels, USA Rice; and hundreds of independent restaurant ventures.

Our programs are designed as “branding” strategies, to increase the media’s and the public’s awareness of, and appreciation for, our clients’ restaurants and their key players. This leads to a stronger public image and reputation and, ultimately, to increased business.

From restaurant startups, grand opening and anniversary celebrations, to new food product launches, community development and social engagement campaigns, Kurman brings great depth and breath to every campaign.

Over the years, Kurman has developed strong relationships throughout the food community and has leveraged its access to high-profile chefs, restaurateurs, food journalists and bloggers and food organizations like AIWF, The James Beard Foundation, ACF, the NRA, IACP and others, building solid media coverage for the many brands we represent.

Kurman’s founder, Cindy Kurman, served on the national board of Women Chefs and Restaurateurs for seven years, managing its public relations and building its brand nationwide. She supports the James Beard Foundation and is a past board member of AIWF.

Among the reasons why restaurants and chefs contact Kurman Communications are:

  • A new restaurant is opening and needs opening publicity and ongoing media coverage
  • The restaurant wants to achieve media coverage that is more balanced between, food, service, people, ambience, business and entertainment
  • The chef(s) would like to build a stronger reputation and/or public persona
  • The chef(s) would like to build upon his/her reputation as a chef or cookbook author to increase endorsement opportunities or opportunities to appear on radio or television
  • The chef’s reputation is larger than the restaurant and the restaurant wants to leverage the chef’s visibility even more
  • The food offering in undergoing re-design and/or the restaurant is re-concepting and needs re-branding
  • There has been an executive chef change and the restaurants wants to publicize this and introduce new menu items created by the new chef
  • Restaurant’s reputation is excellent, but it doesn’t translate into more business
  • The restaurant would like to increase business in general or reduce slow periods
  • The restaurant’s business is excellent, but its reputation for quality and culinary excellence lags behind
  • The chef’s reputation is growing larger than the restaurant and the restaurant wants to become less chef-centric
  • The restaurant is being refurbished or re-designed and needs a new brand identity

While each program is custom-designed, there are several standard approaches we use to achieve our results. Our customers may engage us to perform all of the following, or just a portion of them. Follow the links below for a full list of our past and present independent and multi-unit restaurants.
