For over four decades, Cindy has shaped the public image of celebrated chefs, award-winning restaurants, prestigious hotels, and mission-driven organizations, leaving an indelible mark on Chicago’s media landscape and beyond.
A proud graduate of Kent State University, Cindy earned her degree in just three years, was honored as the university’s Outstanding Senior, and remains a dedicated member of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication’s Professional Advisory Board.
Before founding her firm, Cindy launched her career as an event planner, publicist, and marketing strategist at Crain Communications, where she was charged with creating and executing the first Automotive News World Congress—and went on to produce three subsequent Congresses. She was responsible for every aspect of the event’s organization and marketing, earning the coveted Successful Meetings Gold Award as the nation’s top event planner. The World Congress was prominently featured in a six-page spread in Successful Meetings magazine. Cindy also managed and promoted the European Motor Conference in Frankfurt, produced through a partnership between Automotive News and the Financial Times.
Cindy’s approach blends journalistic instincts with marketing acumen. She began her career as a writer and event planner, bringing a sharp editorial eye and a deep respect for narrative to all her campaigns.
Cindy is widely known for her intuitive storytelling, fearless creativity, and tireless advocacy for her clients. She has launched and elevated hundreds of businesses—from iconic local favorites to national brands.
Her work is not only results-driven—it is emotionally resonant, socially conscious, and fiercely personal. She is especially passionate about supporting women entrepreneurs, community nonprofits, and culturally rich initiatives that bring people together.
Under her leadership, Kurman Communications has remained boutique by design yet bold in execution, offering a hands-on, customized approach to every client. Cindy’s campaigns have generated millions of dollars in earned media coverage, sold-out events, and lasting reputational value.
Her accomplishments were acknowledged in 2008 when she was inducted into Today’s Chicago Woman’s Hall of Fame.
In addition to her PR work, Cindy is a mentor, speaker, and advocate for ethical communications. She has played an active role in civic and cultural causes, including The Chicago Help Initiative, Green City Market, River North Business Association and serves as a strategic advisor to multiple nonprofits and advocacy groups.
Driven by integrity, curiosity, and a love for connecting people with purpose, Cindy Kurman is more than a publicist—she is a connector, a creator, and a catalyst for meaningful change.
